Biography:
Curve Cuts: 4th professional season. Played his college ball at the University of Pittsburgh from 2004-06. Was a first team All-American selection by Baseball America in 2005. Named the Pirates 2008 Minor League Player of the Year after hitting a combined.359 with 41 doubles, five home runs, 72 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 129 games between Lynchburg and Altoona
2008 Season: Began the year at High-A Lynchburg. Registered 47 multi-hit games with the Hillcats. Was a member of the Carolina League’s mid and post-season All-Star teams. Hit.400 (38-for-95) in April,.330 (34-for-103) in May,.354 (34-for-96) in June and.402 (37-for-92) in July. Opened up the season with a nine-game hitting streak (15-for-31.484) from 4/4-14. Had four multi-hit games in a row (8-for-16.500) from 4/28-5/1. Selected to play in the Carolina/California League All-Star game on 6/24 @ Myrtle Beach, where he went 2-for-3 as the starting third baseman for the Carolina League. Put together a Hillcats team high 17-game hitting streak (28-for-64.438) from 6/15-7/5. Named Topps Carolina League Player of the Month for July after hitting.402 (37-for-92) with three homers and 20 RBI in 26 games during the month. Promoted to Double-A Altoona on 7/29. Was leading the Carolina League in batting average (.370), hits (143), doubles (36), on-base percentage (.448) and runs scored (77) at the time of his promotion to Altoona. Went 2-for-4 with a RBI in his Double-A debut, an Altoona 4-2 win, on 7/29 @ Trenton. Went 4-for-5 with two RBI in a 12-0 win @ New Hampshire on 8/15. Had an eight-game hitting streak (13-for-28.448) from 8/14-22
2007 Season: Spent the entire season at Low-A Hickory. Had an eight-game hitting streak (13-for-29.448) from 4/13-25. Hit.305 (18-for-59) during the month of April. Missed nearly six weeks (4/30-6/7) with a strained oblique muscle. Went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI on 6/9 vs. Asheville, just his second game back from the strained oblique. Drove in three runs in a 3-for-4 night @ Delmarva on 7/17. Had three hits, three runs and two RBI vs. West Virginia on 8/24. Went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs driven in @ Asheville on 8/31 2006 Season: Made his professional debut on 6/20 for Short-A Williamsport, going 1-for-4 @ State College. Drove in a season high four runs on 6/29 vs. Mahoning Valley. Hit his first professional home run on 7/9 @ Tri-City. Began August by going 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI @ Jamestown on 8/1. Was hitting.474 (9-for-19) in his first six games of August, when he suffered torn thumb ligaments that ended his season on 8/6
